I have always felt the most appealing aspect of sculpture as a form of art was its ability to reignite the interest of the viewer through its multitude of views. But with Wood Sculpture, there is the additional aspect of the enhancement of form through the visual of the concentric lines presented by the growth rings. When these are exposed they act further to essentially magnify the viewer’s perspective. Convergence capitalizes on this by opening the interior of the piece which constantly acts in contrast to the exterior shape. The sculpture acts as a shapeshifter would do only in this case through its varied composition as the observer transits from one position to another around the perimeter of this piece. This piece is designed to use space to accent this inherent quality.
