I seldom use paint for wood sculpture because it masks the grain tending to obliterate the reality of the wood itself.
But in some cases, including this one the reality of the subject can be sacrificed to the previous rule. In this case the reality of a Bald Eagle is it's white markings. The paint has be blended and layered to achieve an antique appearance. The title of the piece reflects my personal decision to make this Eagle the last one I will make at this level of detail. It is the only Bald Eagle I have ever painted. Only the head and tail have been painted, the body is stained.
