This piece was the inspiration of Tip-Up Town
winter festival of Houghton Lake, Michigan. An Ice Fisherman exhibiting his success with a "thumbs up". Not a carving likely to be repeated due to the limited appeal of the subject. Nevertheless I have experienced ice fishing in Minnesota and found it to be more of a social experience than a sport. Not unlike the example shown in the movie, "Grumpy old Men". I was thoroughly "charmed" by a climate given warmth by Sauna's, Grog, cribbage, and a hook n' line in a hole in the ice. This sculpture was done entirely using only a chainsaw.
