Tiltmont

Tiltmont

Sculpture in this Section

Tiltmont is an action sculpture of another dimension.  This is due largely to the incorporation of two figures which through their interaction create a more exciting piece. Secondly the placement of the dragon through his positioning creates a flow of energy that starts in the tip of his tail and then spirals upward to his head and jumps from there to the wizard's hand.  This spiral movement commands the viewers attention to the full 360 degrees of perspective.

I have long stated that it is fortunate that a photograph cannot capture the essence of what is sculpture. If it could, no one would own sculpture.

If that were the case I certainly would have to look for other work.  But this truth presents itself in the form of a paradox in my attempting to sell my work through photographs. For this reason I have for the first time through the magic of this electronic medium presented this particular sculpture in rotating format to give the viewer a better impression of the scope of this piece.

DESCRIPTION

Tiltmont is carved from a single piece wood, except for the horns of the dragon, which have been added to allow for greater structural strength. The wood is unknown to me. It most closely resembles Yellow Birch. It stands 41 inches tall and 27 inches wide. The concept for this piece had existed in my mind for more than four years before finally coming to fruition when I stumbled upon this perfect piece of wood in Rhinebeck, NY in 2000. Though starting the piece that year it was not finished until Feb. of 2002.  It has been colored using two different colors of stain.  Must be professionally packaged if shipped.
